How Fuel Saver Works

📍 Find stations near you

Allow location access or enter your postcode to instantly see every petrol station within your chosen radius, with live prices updated throughout the day.

🧮 True cost comparison

Unlike other price checkers, Fuel Saver factors in the cost of driving to each station. A slightly cheaper station that's 5 miles away might actually cost you more overall once travel is included.

About the UK Fuel Finder Scheme

From 2 February 2026, the UK Government's Fuel Finder scheme requires every petrol station in the UK to publish their prices in real time, updating within 30 minutes of any change at the pump. This new open data scheme — backed by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) — was introduced to increase transparency and help drivers find the cheapest fuel near them.

Fuel Saver uses this data, alongside feeds from major retailers including Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Esso and more, to give you the most up-to-date prices available. The CMA estimates the scheme could save the average UK household up to £40 per year on fuel costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often are prices updated?

Prices from the Government Fuel Finder scheme are updated within 30 minutes of any change at the pump. Supermarket and major retailer feeds are typically updated multiple times per day.

Which fuel types are supported?

Fuel Saver supports E10 (standard unleaded petrol), E5 (premium unleaded / super unleaded) and B7 (standard diesel). Select your fuel type from the dropdown before searching.

Why do prices vary so much between stations?

Fuel prices in the UK are set independently by each forecourt operator. Supermarkets typically offer the lowest prices due to their buying power and high volumes. Motorway services and isolated rural stations often charge significantly more. In early 2026, the difference between the cheapest and most expensive stations in some areas exceeded 20p per litre.

How much could I save?

Based on an average tank of 50 litres, a 10p per litre difference between stations means £5 saved per fill-up. Fill up once a week and that's over £250 a year. Fuel Saver shows you the total cost including travel so you can make an informed decision every time.

Is Fuel Saver free to use?

Yes — Fuel Saver is completely free. No account, no app download and no registration required. Simply visit fuelsaver.org.uk on any device and start saving immediately.

Why is petrol so expensive at the moment?

In early 2026, UK fuel prices rose sharply following disruption to global oil supplies caused by conflict in the Middle East. The RAC reported that petrol rose by around 12p per litre and diesel by 25p per litre between late February and March 2026. Using a price comparison tool like Fuel Saver is one of the most effective ways to manage rising fuel costs.
